Electrostatic Discharge Protection in Desiccators

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden and momentary electric current that flows between two objects at different electrical potentials caused by direct contact or induced by an electrostatic field. The term is usually used in the electronics and other industries to describe momentary unwanted currents that may cause damage to electronic equipment.

Acrylic desiccators can be a dangerous place to store microelectronic parts. Therefore, clear static-dissipative plastics e.g. static-dissipative PVC as we use in our desiccators are becoming the industry standard in cleanroom applications.

Proper grounding and the use of conductive or dissipative materials on desiccator dry boxes play major roles. The charge goes to ground rather than being discharged into a sensitive part. To prevent damaging a charged device, the rate of discharge can be controlled with static-dissipative materials as you can find in Cleatech’s ESD Safe desiccator dry cabinets.

Our Static-Dissipative PVC is available on all desiccator models. Because this material will not accumulate surface charges, it won’t attract charged particles.

Also, Cleatech has designed non-contaminating stainless steel shelves, trays which guarantee the perfect conductivity required for a Faraday cage. Shelves come in standard sizes to fit Cleatech’s desiccator cabinets and provide organized storage.

Each chamber of desiccators features stainless steel racks that accept standard shelves and connected to a suitable ground, deliver complete electrostatic protection.

• Hospital Grade Power Strip with four outlets provides fused 120 VAC/ 16A required if power outlet is needed inside the glove box.
• Stainless Steel Work surface or Spill tray is recommended for Static Dissipative PVC glove boxes in order to protect the Anti static coating from scratching. It’s also recommended for transparents glovebox if it’s ordered with stand
• Epoxy Powder coated Steel Stand with Caster choice of 30″Height and 35″ Height. In transparent gloveboxes It’s recommended to be ordered with stainless steel worksurface or spill tray
